It looks like Halliburton cut and ran from this contract. I wonder why? It looks like old Dick and the Bush administration are taking the heat from the press and congress on this and may have had something to do with Halliburton running away from this huge government contract. Henry Waxman, a California Democrat, sent a letter to Lt. Gen. Robert Flowers, commander of the Army Corps of Engineers, questioning why other oil-service companies had not been allowed to bid. The "political heat" is most likely coming from Henry Waxman's investigation into possible influence peddling and monopolistic practices of Halliburton. The BBC had an Iraqi exile on yesterday, when asked whether people in Iraq were getting the US message that they're there to liberate them, he said they mostly heard Saddam's propaganda and as part of that they're being told all about Cheney's links to Halliburton. And this looks like plenty of dirt for Saddam to spread to the rest of the Arab world where Haliburton gets much of its oil-related business, and where the war is increasingly unpopular. Also with Richard Perle resigning, perhaps it is a sign that the public is waking up and the Bush administration and Haliburton have to be cleverer and hide their true intentions.
