Mrs. Lynch meant you no harm, nor did she mean me any. In fact, she is one of my favorite teachers. She's not trying to convert you or anything, she just is genuinely that faithful. I feel the same way about my own beliefs, or lack thereof. She was genuinely sorry that I felt that way, because to her, I will be going to hell, and she does not want that for me. I really never saw why you two were always at each other's throats. Admittedly, she was not able to keep up with our class that well, but that was because she is so busy doing other things. She should drop at least one of the courses she teaches to deal with English Dept stuff. She looks so worn and haggard this year. My heart really goes out to her. But I digress... Religion is a very important topic. If one switches their perspective slightly, it is not just about silly rituals, and going to church or synagogue or mosque. It's about how we relate to life. I really love discussing religion. Ever had a religious argument with Mike Matthews? Our opinions are diametrically oposed, but we have a great time, just cuz we enjoy the subject. That religion can come up in a school setting and be discussed freely and objectively is, I think, the best sign that a class is being run well. Just because someone might have a different opinion doesn't mean it's not fun to duscuss. If you just stick with one thing without listening to other views, then you're just turning into another mindless zombie who does what they've been told since birth and nevver realyl examined their religious beliefs. The problem with most religions is faith. Faith is the most despicable concept I can think up. Patterning your whole life on something that you go out of your way to be unable to prove, because it shows "faith" is just ludicrous. It's like praising irrational behavior. This is why it's important to talk about religion and not just let it fester. "A mind is a terrible thing to waste." Sorry about ranting a bit, but this is how i feel. And keep up the good work with the other postings. :-)
