Why does one of the boards devout, and often belligerent atheists ask a question like this? |

Exactly my point. Since when should anyone's beliefs be subjected to criticism by a vindictive noise maker. I see Cheirdale didn't bother to put any more input into the previous thread. Instead we get the "Duhhh...ha, ha, ha I really got them on this one....Jesus is a loaf of bread....when does he expire?" How simple minded can someone be???????
NO CHEIRDALE, you didn't get anyone with this except maybe yourself. All you're displaying is more of your vindictive, ignorant, and hate/contempt ridden psyche, not to mention your intolerance for other peoples beliefs.
No one NEEDS someone like you dictating or implying what they should or shouldn't believe. High praise for atheists indeed!!! |

You come off as a very ignorant, unintelligent person, Smytty. I feel sorry for your family and co-workers if they're submitted to your constant tilting at windmill fits of rage and barely coherent thought processes. Or maybe you just play an ignoramus as part of a fake internet persona you've developed in which case, kudos. You've done a marvelous job of coming off as an ignorant nutjob that doesn't understand his own religion enough to explain his beliefs. |

Smytty, you're overheating. Cheirdal asked a question, and you're turning it into a snarling personal fight. You need to chill. _________________ Government debt and deficits are robbing your children, your grandchildren, and your great-grandchildren. http://www.usdebtclock.org/ |

| The purpose of the question was to incite and ridicule, not discuss. I stand by all my comments. |

No, that wasn't the purpose of the question. I am genuinely curious as to what the answer(s) are. I stand by my question. I don't lie, Smytty. |

I don't see incitement. It's a valid question, maybe there is not a hard deadline but is there a rough timeframe?
And the answer seems to be no. It's a matter of faith.
I personally dislike, in fact I despise, religious fraud, bible-thumping fakers who would take life and violate every religious law for their own angry purposes, or those who deliberately mislead for any purpose, etc. Such things, as well as religiously motivated violence, give religious faith a bad name.
However, I like what Jesus said, and I think and wonder how teachings of simple justice should have been such a revelation and cause for so much anger back then.
The point seemed to me to be that politics and its lies oppose truth and fact at any cost, and politics will kill to have its way, which is to have power and sway over the people. Here was a leader in whom Pilate found no fault, but some who hated the Romans called upon the hated Roman law to have him killed, so that they could walk around with oversized scroll cases to make themselves look powerful and important, and not be put in their places by him. And the faith and belief is that this leader was a most high emissary who is beyond life and death and who will one day return with total power and authority, to rule forever.
This belief in my opinion is not a bad thing, when believers are behaving according to its teachings. But when it is self-contradicting, such as when the faithful are judgemental and intolerant and would harrass others, then there is a problem.
It seems to me that a simple answer such as I gave would be the proper response from one who believes, rather than rage toward one's neighbor. I think this response reflects the hurt that comes from ridicule of one's belief. But I suggest that it is not necessary or appropriate, and does not reflect well upon the belief. Not that this affects the belief or the faith.
Frankly I think that one such as Jesus would be a far better ruler than most, if not all, that we have now. _________________ Government debt and deficits are robbing your children, your grandchildren, and your great-grandchildren. http://www.usdebtclock.org/ |

| Woody Allen summed it up best when he said, when Jesus comes back, he'll be the well dressed dude, wearing tennis shoes, and he'll be really PO'd. |

| Bob - I agree with you. The sad thing is that Jesus would never be elected president. Carter, in office, tried to be the devout Christian I believe he is, but that backfired big time. Not a chance. Dog eat dog; throw'em to the wolves, etc. etc. |

Being a devout Christian, or anything else, doesn't mean the policies one makes will be right. Religion and politics have, or should have, nothing to do with one another.
I find it interesting the moderator steps out to criticize someone that disagrees with him, but allows another to use language every bit as rude/beligerent, and yet no comments are made at him. I would expect a REAL moderator to issue comments to both parties....unless of course one is EXTREMELY BIASED.
A Gordon Peterson you will never be, Mr. Bruhns. |

Oh, you mean statements Cheirdal made in response to your angry attack? Yeah, maybe I should have booted you off the board before that happened. I keep hoping, though, that people will use the forum to discuss issues without having to cut each other up. _________________ Government debt and deficits are robbing your children, your grandchildren, and your great-grandchildren. http://www.usdebtclock.org/ |
