I was up there yesterday. There were 8 empty shops at the town center and this does NOT include the new construction. Two more shops closed in the last 2 months.

I think this is because boston properties is jacking up rents. Golds Gym said they doubled their rent in the kmart shopping center. I know the place that had the Wrap Works (i remember this because I liked it) has been empty for almost 2.5 years now.

about two years ago there were protest signs at the town center because boston properties put some small business out of business in leesburg with rent increases.

so it looks like they feel they can accept a significantly higher vacancy rate and get a smaller number of shops to pay higher rates.

shame... Reston Town Center is a nice place. Would be nicer with more shops. Its not a huge deal, I just think its interesting.
