Today, Fairfax County is not only facing a significant financial crisis, but also a crisis of failed leadership. That is why after speaking with my family and carefully considering this important decision, I have decided to run for Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.

The current leadership of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has consistently spent money like there was no recession looming. As a result, today Fairfax County is facing its most severe financial shortfall in modern history. The half-a-billion dollar shortfall for next year makes the current fiscal year’s shortfall of $60 million seem like no big deal! While some of this could reasonably be expected due to the financial turmoil,, our projected shortfall is 17% of the budget and the largest in the region.

The financial issues confronting Fairfax County are the same as the financial issues confronting the entire country. Herrity has shown no leadership qualities or ability to work with other supervisors. Not a good candidate to lead the large, diverse, and complex county that is Fairfax.

I'd say we've had enough of the Connolly non-enforcement leadership, and Bulova was right in there with him... so, Herrity is the choice.

This is on his website www.patherrity.com:

One issue politics leads to tunnel vision and the absence of leadership. See, for example, the rudderless ship that is the town council of Herndon.

Oh, you mean the Herndon Mayor and Council elected in 2006 and re-elected in 2008, that reduced our real-dollar taxes and got enforcement going in the Town - instead of continually raising our real-dollar taxes, and wringing their hands saying 'Oh there's nothing we can do', like the old guard did?

In Herndon these days, that old guard is back, hoping to influence the 2010 election. My advice: just say no. The old guard has done enough harm, thanks.

Getting back to Mr. Herrity, check his website at www.patherrity.com.

Even in the face of a looming recession, the response of the current leadership has been limited to across-the-board personnel cuts. In the most important budget markup of her career, my opponent failed to make any significant reductions in spending. Just last month, I proposed that the Board look at specific service reductions in the current fiscal year to avoid further across-the-board cuts. Even as our citizens cut back their spending because of declining incomes and net worth, my opponent and the current majority of the Board failed to enact spending reductions.
