Anyone getting the hype on this? Apple has a different kind of customer base. They are like fans of a rockband who basically worship Steve Jobs. So it is different situation than when Microsoft comes out with something new or something like that.
Its a little smaller computer with very little storage that is flat. I can also buy books on it. I am not an early adopter. Generally new gadgets are not very good when they first come out. It is common for companies to go "this is the greatest thing ever", then 5 years later when it works go "our old gadget sucked". So I usually give new stuff several years before I even look at them.
For example, I may look at a hybrid when I get my next car in the next years. I wanted to give them a while to see if they were lemons.
BTW, the barnes and noble e-book reader got horrible reviews in the new york times just before christmas. |

Maybe people are waiting for the next version with wings. Honestly, this is nothing more than an outdated laptop that can only run proprietary software. If they had only made a portable Xbox 360 instead of this… Oh, wait the Xbox CPU is tri-core and each dual threaded… You got it, your Xbox 360 from 2 years ago is more powerful than this. It’s sad, it’s really sad. If it had 4 core, dual threaded open architecture, they would sell every one of these at $1500. But no, they put out something that is only as powerful as the WII (or old Xbox if you have not figured that out), and they call it new. _________________ $ocialism makes you poor. |

| It's basically a large iPhone without the phone part. I already have an iPhone (which I love) so I won't be purchasing this. On the iPhone (and I assume the iPad) you can download the Kindle app for free and start buying electronic books via Amazon that are transmitted to your device. I use my Kindle app every night to read in bed with the lights off without disturbing my girlfriend with a light on. If I got the iPad, using the Kindle app would probably be my main use for it. |

| Heh. It actually does autocorrect a lot of words as you're typing them in. The proximity of the space bar to the bottom row of letters on the touch screen is my biggest problem. Still it's much easier to type on than mine tiny iPhone screen. |

there was a line at the apple store in reston this weekend. I don't really get why people would wait in line for this. get it in a week. they will line up for the next iphone too, which is just a little bit better than the old iphone.
I own a mac and I don't think it is that great. There is so little software for it, that it gets annoying, |

A segment of Apple's customer base invests in their stock either directly or indirectly through funds. They feel they have a vested interest in purchasing the company's products, keeping up with the company's promotions, and spreading the word (mostly good). Waiting in line or packing promotional presentations may be another way that they feel promotes the company and their own financial interest.

apple upgrades their gadgets every year. I am not a fan of 1.0 products. iPad only has between 16-32 gb of storage. That is not alot for what you are paying. I think with in 3 years the iPad will either be greatly improved and have a number of competitors or be a dead product.
let other people be the guinea pigs. I'll wait a few years. with in 2 years you will be able to get 150 Gbs of storage in an iPad and the CPUs will improve alot too.
first generation devices are nifty, but they generally imporve quickly if people buy them. |
