This means it will be closed on Wednesday too (I could get in tomorrow, but not Wednesday). I am a contractor. I see lots of stores open, I don't know why federal employees get a paid day off.
I don't get a paid day off. I have to account for my hours and have to either work more or use vacation. BTW, I do have quite a bit of work I can do from home. I can then prove to them I did it also (since its techy stuff this is easy). However, I need individual approval to work on any NON crisis issue (ie production application dies). Utterly annoying.
Think of the logic. I have a max number of hours for the month. I can make up the hours later in the month or I can just get my stuff done now so it doesn't pile up on me. It isn't just the hours. I have stuff to do. It is actually easier to work from home as a techy. Quieter and less questions.
I have done lots of work from home. The problem is the project is onsite with the government and they over manage it. In the past either for the government or private sector, I just work from home on Snow days. Software projects have a standardized process to track what you are doing. So they can tell if I get work done or if I am watching TV.
End Rant. 12 hour days coming later in the month so I don't blow vacation time. |
