The reader comments about Obamacare in this Patch article are worthwhile reading. They represent both pro and con and I would guess, fairly representative of attitudes across the country.

Polls still show ‘most’ folks when asked are against the legislation, even though they favor some of the early ‘free’ benefits. No surprise.. who doesn’t like free when someone else is paying?

Interesting. The only pejorative were used by the liberals.

it is horrifying. poor people can now go to the doctor. i know right wingers say they already can! If that is the case, this won't cost anything because they won't need to use the subsidized insurance they will be getting.

one point that republicans miss out on. Insurance Companies are not complaining. If this was so bad for the insurance industry they would be hardcore lobbying against it. They are not complaining because they are getting 30 million more customers.

you cannot have the perks that americans do like, such as getting declined for a pre-existing condition without the mandate. If you do, people will wait until they get sick to get insurance. Insurance is a risk pool. As we age, we use more insurance.

that being said, the democrats are totally full of it on what this will cost. It will cost a fortune. you will also see more medicaid fraud. PBS NOVA did an episode on Dental corporations who go after medicaid patients. They basically put in crowns when fillings will do because they get alot more money for it. We need to have far more severe penalties for companies that do this.

Those that think Obamacare is simply about insuring 30 million currently uninsured miss the real objective.. which is to make a major step in achieving national single-payer healthcare. Otherwise there would have been no need for 2700 pages of legislation, 21 new taxes which will eventually filter through to taxpayers primarily in the middle, 13,000 pages of new regulations (and growing) and new IRS agents up to 16,000 by some estimates.

No, the real objective of Obamacare is eventual control over 300+ millions of citizens healthcare, cradle to grave and with no competition to the federal bureaucracy in making all the decisions about providers, medications, permitted procedures and delivery.

With the Supreme Court decision, and without some rationalization to the legislation (not likely with the present Dem leadership) we are on our way to a two-tier system.. one for the masses, and one for those that can afford to pay extra for healthcare as we have today, with a wide choice of doctors and procedures and a primary say as to when we get the service we want.

Again the liberal/progresssive objective is single-payer control, with Obamacare merely a waypoint along the road and with the idea that giving away enough early freebies and hiding the real cost (and who pays), the journey will be made easier...
