When is the official cutoff date for Jesus' second coming? By that I mean, when will religious authorities say "Well he's not coming." if he has not shown up? Will it be 100 hundred years from now? 1000 years?

Zager and Evans suggested the year 7510.

But with the total train wreck headed this way right now, people might start to have reason to wonder.

Who are Zager and Evans? I thought that most biblical scholars thought it was somewhere around 2000 years after his death but I'm not a biblical scholar so I don't know.

Zager and Evans did that 'In The Year 2525' song back in 1969.

Seriously, biblical scholars have been predicting the date of the End Time without much success for centuries, if not millennia. It always looks like it to them at the time, and it always isn't.

He should be back in the office after lunch today...

...Unless you'er talking about Jesus Christ, there is no cut off date that I know of (probally for a very logical reason) however, the next likely arrival time (aside from the few who say Dec 25th 2008) should be anytime during the year 2012 to fulfill the Mayan prophesy.

Some say he has consistently returned to a generation of people in one form or another, only to be murdered then return again, but this was rejected by the council of Nicea.

Bill Hicks had some ideas...

...But I warn you, they are not very family (conservative) friendly

This thread is STUPID. It's only purpose was for a hate ridden and intolerant individual to hopefully tick off others that he has no respect for...after all, they don't think like the genius Cheirdal does. CRUCIFY THEM!!!

Oh, I don't know. If a major tenent of Christianity is that Christ will come again, seems reasonable to wonder when it will be. Theologians, preachers, ministers have been speculating in books and from the pulpit about it for over 1900 years and even foretold the conditions under which he will appear. Why can't Cheirdal ask about it?

It was a legitimate question about religious beliefs. Someone that posts the drivel you're associated with should really go easy with casting stones in his glass manor of stupidity.

What does it matter? If Jesus should come back (don't know where he'd land though. What if he decided to show up in Saudi Arabia?) he'd probably keel over is disgust over what has happened to his call for "love thy neighbor; go into your chamber and pray; do unto others; I am my brother's keeper", and other wonderful things he supposedly stood for. I don't think much, or ANYthing would change Crying or Very sad

It has been estimated there are some 23,000 Christian denominations, of which only a minuscule handful engage in trying to predict the exact date of the return of Christ. As to when each and every one of this minuscule handful gives up (if ever) in making predictions, only God knows...

I don't know why, but as a kid we always thought it was supposed to be around 2000 years after the resurrection. I assumed there was some scriptural backing behind that.

There are allusions to another coming of the Messiah in much Judaic scripture, but I think the most specific prophesies are in the Book Of Revelations to John, known as "Revelation", in the Christian Greek scriptures. I recall a thousand year reign, but nothing about two thousand years to my recollection.

stix 5:03 pm - Just some fun with language. "minuscule handful" = small handful. Handfuls by definiton are minuscule. For fun, I looked up the opposite and found "majuscule". Now if you could find a "majuscule handful", that would be a wonder. Wink
